Alarm valve working principle and function introduction

In a fire suppression system, the alarm valve plays a vital role. It is not only a key device for controlling water flow, but also an important device for issuing alarm signals and ensuring a timely response to fires. This article will detail the working principle and function of the alarm valve to help readers better understand and apply it.

**Alarm Valve Working Principle and Function Introduction**

I. In the fire protection system, the alarm valve plays a vital role. It is not only a key device for controlling water flow, but also an important device for issuing alarm signals to ensure a timely response to fires. This article will detail the working principle and function of the alarm valve to help readers better understand and apply it.

II. Working Principle of the Alarm Valve The working principle of the alarm valve is based on its internal structure and control system. When the system detects a fire or other emergency, the alarm valve will respond quickly, controlling the opening and closing of the valve to regulate the flow direction and flow rate of water.

1. **Working Principle of the Wet Alarm Valve** Wet alarm valves are typically used in places where the ambient temperature is between 4℃ and 70℃. Under normal conditions, the pipe network is filled with pressurized water, and the valve flap is closed. When a fire occurs, the sprinkler head activates and sprays water, causing a drop in pressure in the pipe network. The valve flap opens, and the system begins to spray water to extinguish the fire. At the same time, a small amount of water flows to the alarm pipe, driving the hydraulic bell and pressure switch to emit an audible and visual alarm signal, and starting the sprinkler pump to pressurize the water supply.

2. **Working Principle of the Dry Alarm Valve** Dry alarm valves are suitable for places with low ambient temperatures or where direct water extinguishing is not suitable, such as cold storage and underground parking garages. In the standby state, the system pipe network is filled with compressed air, sealing the fire pressure water on the water supply side. When a fire occurs, the sprinkler head activates, and the compressed air in the pipe network is quickly discharged. The valve flap opens under the pressure difference, and pressurized water enters the water supply pipe to extinguish the fire. Similarly, at the same time that the alarm valve opens, the hydraulic bell and pressure switch will also activate, issuing an alarm signal and starting the fire equipment.

3. **Working Principle of the Pre-action Alarm Valve** The pre-action alarm valve combines fire detection and alarm technology with an automatic sprinkler system. In the system's standby state, the pipe network is waterless but contains pre-charged gas pressure. When a fire occurs, the fire detector sends an alarm signal, and the control device opens the exhaust valve, releasing the compressed air from the pipe network, and water enters the pipe network for fire extinguishing. The pre-action alarm valve has functions such as preventing false spraying, rapid opening when a fire occurs, mechanical alarm from the hydraulic bell, and the pressure switch providing a pump start signal.

4. **Working Principle of the Deluge Alarm Valve** Deluge alarm valves are mainly used in places requiring rapid, large-area fire extinguishing. When a fire occurs, the deluge alarm valve quickly opens the sprinkler heads, spraying extinguishing water like rain to quickly cover the fire source and extinguish the fire. The pipe network on one side of the deluge alarm valve system is usually an empty pipe or filled with a static water column, which is different from the pipe network on one side of the wet alarm valve system being filled with pressurized water.

III. Function Introduction of the Alarm Valve The alarm valve has multiple functions in the fire protection system:

1. **Control Water Flow**: The alarm valve controls the opening and closing of the valve to regulate the flow direction and flow rate of water, ensuring that fire extinguishing water can be supplied to the fire scene according to the predetermined path and flow rate.

2. **Issue Alarm Signals**: When a fire occurs, the alarm valve will drive the hydraulic bell and pressure switch to issue audible and visual alarm signals, promptly notifying personnel to evacuate and start fire equipment.

3. **Start Fire Equipment**: The alarm valve directly starts fire pumps and other fire extinguishing equipment through the electrical signal from the pressure switch, ensuring that the fire is controlled promptly and effectively.

4. **Prevent False Spraying**: Alarm valves such as pre-action alarm valves have the function of preventing false spraying, ensuring that the sprinkler system will not be accidentally activated in non-fire situations.

IV. Conclusion As an important component of the fire protection system, the working principle and function of the alarm valve are of great significance to ensuring the safety of human life and property. By thoroughly understanding the working principle and functional characteristics of the alarm valve, we can better apply and maintain the fire protection system and improve fire prevention capabilities.
